The Day of Long Feasting
Greetings young wizards. I expect that this letter finds you on the Day of Long Feasting, and so I thank you for prying yourself away from your meals and devoting yourself momentarily to the reading of this letter. The Day of Long Feasting is one of the holidays I am granted time away from my role as a Mid-Level Mage at the Grand Celestio Council of Wizards, but having already eaten my fill, there’s not much else to do with this time off, and thus I thought I’d write to you all. I imagine I spent the day the exact same way all of you spent it, eating from the constantly flowing courses of meals, so rather than describe my experience of the holiday, I thought it might interest you to know how the clients of the Grand Celestio Council prepared for it.
As we all know, the Day of Long Feasting mainly centers around the magically enchanted cornucopia we set at the middle of the table which dispenses a different random meal every hour, on the hour, for twelve hours. Most people order their cornucopias from local magic shops, and for budgetary reasons, the infinite food enchantment only lasts for the twelve hours it needs to in order to for folks to celebrate the holiday. At the Grand Celestio Council of Wizards, we’re able to provide more long term cornucopias for our clients to use over many years, and yet we constantly have clients coming back asking for new ones with slight alterations.
This year I had a client call in explaining their need for a new cornucopia. When I saw their request, I checked our records and saw that just last year they’d purchased a five year infinite food enchantment. They explained that, although the cornucopia produced an abundance of random food from all over the world, every time they’d used it, the food they received was covered in powdered sugar. The client said that, while they did like powdered sugar, they’d prefer their savory options to remain savory. Despite my incredulousness, I went and checked the returned cornucopia, and found that although nothing was wrong with the enchantment, every food item I watched it summon was covered in sugar. I made a note to study this cornucopia another day and hid it in a storage cabinet so no one would try and repurpose it for evil.
On the flip side, we also had a client call in requesting a new cornucopia that only produces food he likes. Despite this not being part of how the infinite food enchantment works, we tried to ask him more questions in order to recommend a different spell, but he was adamant that it had to be a Day of Long Feasting cornucopia in all regards, but it could only produce good foods. We never did get any clarification on what “good foods” were, as the client got annoyed with our questions and hung up. I hope the Day of Long Feasting is going well at his castle, but I suspect otherwise.
I hope you all enjoyed the merriment of this day to its fullest. I intend to spend the rest of my holiday time off studying the powdered sugar cornucopia I temporarily stole from work. There is still so much we don’t know about magic, and I intend to know it all.
May the moon shine favorably and without hesitation upon you,
Alexan Drytus
